That crazy Kingsley Hall ZC once again told his same four jokes August 28th while having a great time getting the members of The Willapa River Lions to polish their shoes in anticipation of District Governor Dale Jacobson's visit at their next meeting Thursday Sept 4 12:15 pm at The Corner Cafe in Raymond.

At that time it was learned they are planning a golf venue on Sunday September 28th that some of us might get a bit of fun patronizing.    For more info send a question to Carol McDonald skeitch22@techline.com  or 360-942-2161 See Advertizement at end of this bulletin

Kingsley did not introduce DG Dale on Sept 4 as he was speaking on behalf of Lions & Elma Theater at 11:00 AM Memorial Service for Willapa Harbor Lion Clark Bevington. PZC Jack Brooks had agreed to drive down and have the honor as he has done so well when introducing PDG Mark.

Kingsley's next such oration was Sept 2 at 7 AM with Montesano Lions. Hope their shoes are shined for DG visit as He missed their meeting just before this to whip them into shape. Included in this bulletin even though not a past August event so can mention that:

They have their famous Turtle Races on Sept 27 RAFFLE WINS 10 DAYS IN MAUI call 360-249-3994. See advertizement end of this bulletin

As predicted in last bulletin Kingsley Hall warned his own Elma-McCleary Lions Club at their regular monthly August 11 meeting about the probability that Dale Jacobson, our District Governor will be crashing their dinner party on September 8. (actually last night). Since they had a active PDG Dick Hermsen they would have been as bored by his usual lecture on DG visit protocal as they are by his same four jokes.

Then  Kingsley will (actually did last night) introduce DG Dale to his own Elma McCleary Lions Club at a dinner at The El Ranchon Restaurant  on Main Street (one half block West of only stop light in Elma) on September 8th (last night) 7 PM

Remember Kingsley would like to  hear from folks interested in Associate Zone Chair responsibilities for nomination at a Zone meeting tentative scheduled for noon September 20th at The Barge Restaurant in Raymond. Prefer someone on line and should have been a club officer. If you are a 19G-5 past club pres, secty, or treas please let me know if you can or cannot attend so I can decide if that is a good date and time. Also, I suggest bringing any new members so they can start to get the bigger picture.

Connie & I are going to try to make it to the Fall Forum in Osoyoos,Canada Oct 3rd & 4th so not able to be at MD19 on Oct 2nd???? Another reason for need for assoc Zone Chair.

On August 16th; Kingsley Hall 19G-5 ZC, Jack Brooks P 19G-5 ZC & Cabinet Retention Chairman and  Brien Patton PZC 19G-5 & 19G VDG represented our zone at Kingsley's (as Zone Chair) first 19G District Cabinet Meeting. He has attended as Associate ZC  however in the past.

Dale Jacobson, MD19G DG Acts as Chairman of the Cabinet and some items covered were:

from Aug 16th 2008 Cabinet meeting minutes

DG Dale handed out his District Governor pins, and then gave some history on the local area; discussing Lewis and Clark and Cape Disappointment .

So, Jack Brooks took this picture of K. Hall & C. Bevington revisiting parts of the end of the  Lewis and Clark Trail after the meeting.

Connie announced giving a needed computer belonging to her deceased husband Lion Clark Bevington to 19G-5 Secretary

First most of three important related items covered there were some related to membership  (FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS FOR US ALL) growth

Kathy Crawford, Membership

Kathy stated some of the duties of her position, based on the District Membership Chair manual. She said some potential problems are club internal problems, lack of enthusiasm for membership issues, lack of training at the club and district level and the ongoing need for younger members.

Possible corrections to these problems are to develop current members into more involved Lions, develop club leadership to ensure stronger clubs, promote training on membership issues and promote membership plans targeting younger members and other demographics.

Something different she would like to do: come up with a club membership tool kit and a smaller version for individual members to be distributed at the start of each year. Put some membership tools in their hands.

And as relayed to ZCs by e-mail from Kathy Crawford, 19G Cabinet Membership Chairwoman from Lisa Thomas as cut and pasted partly below in red:

Dear District and Multiple District Membership Chairpersons,

Lions Clubs International knows that sometimes Lions can have difficultly inviting new members into their club. That said, I would like to remind you, as membership leaders, of the membership growth programs available to your club, district and multiple from Lions Clubs International.

The Year Round Growth Award Program

The Year Round Growth Program encourages clubs and individuals to invite year round and rewards both clubs and individuals for their efforts. New this year, in addition to the Membership Excellence awards that clubs can receive, all sponsoring Lions are eligible for the International President’s Certificate of Sponsorship. To read more on the program and on how to obtain sponsorship and new member certificates, we encourage you to view the Year Round Growth section of the Web site.

The Membership Key Award Program

The Membership Key Award Program is one of LCI’s longest running award programs. It specializes in awarding individual Lions who invite new members. There are 17 keys in the program, each key marking the invitation of a different number of members. One of the most important rules of the program is that new members must remain for a year and a day before they count toward a sponsor’s key. To read more about how an individual Lion can obtain membership keys, please visit the Membership Key Award Program section of the LCI Web site.

Remember: Your invitation leads to more hands, more service, and to, possibly, more awards for your club.

Best wishes in your year as membership chair! I strongly encourage you to share any program information with the clubs in your district or multiple.

If I can be of help to you, please let me know,

Next and second most important presentation was a seminar/presentation by our own from 19G-5 Jack Brooks, extension (SECOND ORDER OF BUSINESS  FOR US ALL) Chairman.

too long winded in minutes so condensed from Aug 16 ,2008 Cabinet meeting minutes

Jack Brooks, Extension
Our Jack Brooks had the attention of all present as many ideas were discussed and considered. Included were some opinions in response to K. Hall's question about what happened to the past failed efforts of establishment of a Westpot Club way back when. Some Great Strategies were discussed and may very well be implemented.

Next and last of three most imported related presenters of goals and responsibilities was orated by Lion  Crawford Spens Retention (THIRD ORDER OF BUSINESS FOR US ALL)Chairman

From Aug 16, 2008 Cabinet meeting minutes

Crawford Spens, Retention

His job is to reduce overall drops within the District. He will encourage clubs to have Retention Chairs and Membership Chairs. He will work on procedures to help clubs keep both new and old members. He will develop talks for Zone Meetings.

Crawford plans to visit clubs to talk about retention. He said all Zone Chairs are not yet sending him their MMRs and VADs

Problems include getting clubs to acknowledge retention problems. He will develop club statistics using their MMRs. He will work on exit interview leave clubs.

Crawford said younger members are needed for Cabinet and leadership positions.

Fantastic Inspirational Reports were presented by all Cabinet Member Chair Persons

DG Dale Jacobsen opened the meeting at 1:05 p.m.  He thanked everyone for coming and thanked Janet and Steve Schneider for hosting the meeting at their home.

And those of us from 19G-5 also thank them for their hospitality.
