Bulletin
Past Events thru
JULY 31
2008
published August 8, 2008
Well, For better or worse, Lion Jack Brooks ZC
congratulates Lion Kingsley Hall, the new 19G-5 Zone Chairman Elect, on his
future taking office on July first at the same installation of new Elma -
MCleary officers dinner. Jack Brooks is going to be a hard act to follow.
Thence Kingsley made his first official required visit to Willapa Harbor (one
meeting too soon) prior to a future visit by Lion Dale Jacobson, DG. because
rescheduled to August 27. (note no mileage cause there on personal bus
anyway). Yep! You guessed it he told the same four jokes. He will be
contacting all clubs in the zone per the tradition of hoping they will invite
him on their agenda on their meeting just before the scheduled visit by our
District Governor and back the next meeting to introduce the District
Governor. With eight clubs that's 16 speeches with the same four jokes.
Maybe eventually he just might learn at least one new one.
Kingsley's next official such oration will be
August 11 thence Sept 8 when he introduces Dale Jacobson at his own Elma
- McCleary Lions Club at their next meeting (dinner) at El Ranchon Mexican
Restaurant. All Lions are Welcome. RSVP if possible to Jack Brooks
Saturday (August 16, 2008) Kingsley will be
attending a cabinet meeting where he would be willing to present ideas from
any members that have some blessing or endorsement by their local club.
Please take the time to respond to this document by e-mail on such
matters. Examples of such are Lion Fred Rapp's (Elma - McCleary Lions) plea
for support of The Aberdeen Union Gospel Mission Building Replacement project.
Jim Silverthorne ZC 19G-3 which includes Aberdeen may have some comments at
the cabinet meeting as well on this. Elma - McCleary Lions & Aberdeen
Lions have already helped put on a fund raising Jazz Festival in the Elma High
School Gym to benefit this cause.
Thank you,
Kingsley for this opportunity to ask for the cooperation
and participation of all the clubs in this area to help support a
wonderful and worthwhile project. I am hoping we will have at least 10
clubs support with at least $1000 for a local match of a grant from
Lions International Foundation.
The Union Gospel Mission in Aberdeen is the only mission between the
Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Columbia river. It has helped hundreds
of men get control of their lives and become productive members of
society. We are not dealing with a few aged winos, we are rehabing
young men in their 20's and 30's. The mission houses 30 men a night
and several hundred each year. They serve over 50,000 meals a year and
teach many of the men skills that help them get on their feet again.
The building is 101 this year. It needs everything.
The mission has raised over 1 million to tear down the building next
door, provide a parking lot and build a 5000 square foot warehouse. We
are just waiting now for the permits to clear so the corner building
can come down.
The local area supports much of the ongoing care of people in need but
we need a new building. It will cost approx. $3 million. Many
foundations who help these type of causes need to know that we locally
support the efforts and put our money where our mouth is. Thank you
for all you can do to bring this about.
Going back to Stacey Walters, we have had the support of all the
District Governors up to now. Please get all your clubs on board.
Thank you, Lion Fred Rapp. P.S. Our club already has a fund and it
will be growing!!!! SFR
After contacts with all club officers to
determine most convenient to the most club officers Kingsley wil be arranging
for as required Zone Meetings soon.
Also, Kingsley would like any folks that
would like to be considered for nomination as Assistant Zone Chair to let him
know. Prefer someone that is at least computer literate enough to maintain
e-mail contacts, access MD-19 & International Webs and eventually
accept a possible nomination to be elected as his replacement (which requires
quite a bit of travel by car).
When all you folks are out enjoying the summer be
sure to patronize the various Lions Club's doins associated with Fairs and
festivals such as Long Beach & Ocean Park Kite Festival etc.
