Lions Club
Zone 19G-5
Bulletin
Past Events thru
OCTOBER 31
published November 7, 2008
As reported in last bulletin Kingsley & Connie
after driving from Elma to Raymond to present a MJF to Ralph Turner at 7:00 AM
on Wednesday October first turned right around and drove back North thru Elma
to an overnight stay in a Omak, WA Motel (Not at Lions Club expence)
where Kingsley wanted to see former employees of a engineering field office he
had there in 1970s and Connie had childhood friend there. Thence next
morning 10/2/08 over Canadian border to Osoyoos, B.C. to attend the
Lions Club MD19 Fall Forum. Got there so early on Thursday morning were
able to make many friends while helping a little the local Osoyoos Lions set
up for the Forum.
Since the Sept/Oct issue of The Border
Crossing (which every Lion in MD19 gets) covered The
Fall Forum only a few things can be added. Kingsley's not befuddled. He's
just hiding his ugly face from the camera behind the girl in front
of him or is he whispering sweet nothings in her ear He wouldn't dare
do a thing like that with Connie watching or would he. Oh! telling her a
joke.

Because Connie & Kingsley were not sure they
were going to be able to attend the Forum until after the two closest hotels
were booked up solid they ended up with phone reservations for one night in
the most expensive room in the most expensive hotel in town and the other two
nights in the least expensive room in the least expensive hotel in town.
By shear luck the desk clerk (thinking most people coming already had
reservations and they would not have much business) of the expensive said they
could stay there all three nights at the lowest rate. This pad (a suite) was
almost like the bridal and simply could not be wasted so of course 19G-5 just
had to have a hospitality room complete with it's banner hung on the
wall(funded by K. Hall & C, Bevington) What a status symbol!!!
Visitors welcomed by our own Dale Jacobson DG, The Harpers-Secretary & PDG,
Brien Patton VDG included: former Carol Monohan (former member State
Legislature) of Raymond and former member of both Raymond & Montesano
Lions, Four beautiful gals in costume from the Pentictin Lions (next Canada
Forum Hosts)
I think among the many handouts from the forum the
following demands the most immediate consideration.
Kingsley Hall's review as required in Criteria #1 to MD
19 Foundation (wrote not sent opinionated report after return. Opinion revised
maybe now)
"I know I learned some things about Lions by going
to a fantastic Northwest Lions Leadership Institute
even though I have been in Leadership roles all my life. Even though I resent
most purely motivational speakers or people trying to train such types
prefering people who speak from the heart with some new good idea while
being entertaining rather than trying to brainwash. Having been personally in
charge of a convention of over 3,000 computer scientists (on the large
scale)with actual complex (very dry) material to present ,-and directing four
or five musical productions per year for almost 20 years of up to 75 different
volunteers (most with stage fright),-and the usual forming & management of
two highly technical consulting firms with up to 48 (mostly college grads
or equivalent) paid out of my own pocket employees at a time.it struck me at
first as not as beneficial as it might have been for someone else.
As a Public Employee, Employee of Consulting Firms, CEO of my
own Kingsley Hall Associates I spoke to or chaired on average 3
or 4 City or County Councils/Commissioners, Plan Commissions, or Hearing
Examiners and Federal Law 405 Project Hearings in 13 States. The Cabinet
meetings I am now privledged to attend are more inspirational as a place
to witness the or help setting of new Lions Club goals and help
accomplish it and others theirs rather than spend time alledgedly learning and
studying group dynamics. But, I must have picked up something
there cause I'm still a Lion (Because I have read about and do what we do)
though 4 out of the 6 people sitting at the table at the last Institute
seminar on public speaking I was at (with lifetime occupations similar to
mine) said they were going home and might be quiting the Lions Club so
they would not have their time wasted by such a meeting again. I never
knew their names (I'd never admit now if I was one) but think I
have seen at least one of these guys since at a Lions function.
I remember the story about the college scholarship
or admissions board being very tired of heariing or reading resumes about
what wonderful leaders their children were until they came across one parent's
letter saying "my daughter is not inclined to be a good leader but is a
great follower" The story goes the child was admitted with the highest
priority the board could offer with a letter stating our entire student
body needs at least one person to lead.
Though I appreciate both the honor bestowed on me by my
club by both their endorsement on below form and making sure I could be
reimbursed for any additional funds incurred by attendance I suggest where
there are more candidates than such opportunities that people with less
vocational and avocational lifetime leadership experiences be given more
consideration rather than those of us that look like we already have the
most experience and most potential for Lions Club leadership. It was
however great for my already huge ego & self esteem to now have on my
resume. I'm very thankful I received the grant
My point is MD19 Lions Service and Leadership
Development Foundation will provide a "$145 Matching
Grant" to The Northwest Leadership Institue for only the first 90 Lions
from MD19 applications received . Let's
encourage and endorse Lions that have the Spirit and both they and The Lions
Club would benefit the most

If you are a zone chair,
please forward these bulletins to the presidents and secretaries in your zone
because I don't have a MD19 roster with all the names and addresses yet.
Hopefully, I will have the list by next bulletin. Thanks for your help.
