Directors Notes

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is one of my all-time favorite musicals. It has an energy that is entertaining and uplifting and it celebrates loyalty, love and family. The qualities found in this play are the qualities I have come to appreciate and value in our student company. They are a talented, hard working and committed group of actors and I am proud of the work that each has done for this production

Producing this musical offered several unique challenges which could not have been met without the support of several important individuals. I am indulging my privelege as director by mentioning and thanking them here. Jenny Goeres gave many hours of her time to help us with costumes and props; she took bits and pieces and transformed them into what you see on stage. Stacey Rockey helped with choreography, scenery, props and costumes. These two ladies helped with so many things! Whatever we needed, they were there with it or knew where to got it They took vague ideas and gave them substance and I appreciate them more than I can say.

I also wish to thank the Elma High School staff for their support. Our administrators, Mr. Gillies, Mr Kramer, and Mr. Bridge are always helpful and encouraging, and the custodial staff. especially Doug Stenek and Gail Clark are always willing to help.

I am especially proud of the instramental and accompaniment music. Cathy Anderson, our leading lady, worked incredibly hard with the musical director on this. This is Cathy's third musical. She is a gifted and a giving young woman and she has my admiration and gratitude for her work.

Laurie Holdsworth’s contributions as musical director are too many to detail. Besides her amazing spatial abilities, she is able to figure out what I mean and what I want beforeI do. Every note of every song performed is a result of her talent and her hard work. I admire her, depend on her, and I’m grateful for her support, her time and her friendship.

Finally, there are several seniors in this company who have been in my plays since they were seventh graders and are working on their last Elma High production. Jon Lofgren, my assistant director, has been much put upon and is much appreciated. To Jon, and to Lisa Vase, K-Lub Loucks, Nicole Carter, Tarry Wollen, Pat McLaughlin you guys are so precious to me! For six years I have watched you grow from goofy und talented middle school kids to goofy and talented young men and women and I am grateful for the opportunity to have taught you, worked with and learned from you. I will miss you. You are the best.
